Derek Roberts is a professional violin maker who holds a Diploma with Distinction in Violin Making and Repair from the Welsh School of Instrument Making and Repair. Charles Beare, the internationally renowned violin expert, and Wilfred Saunders, one of the UK's leading violin makers, were the examiners who awarded his Distinction certificate.
The late Rowan Armour-Brown introduced Derek Roberts to violin making at her courses at Warwickshire College. Rowan had trained at Cremona and instilled the highest standards of craftsmanship and artistry. Derek then studied for three years at the Welsh School under Miranda Green, Terry McCool and Malcolm Siddall. You can see him making a violin on a Stradivarius model.
In July 2000 Derek was invited to the Royal Show to take part in an exhibition of traditional skills, demonstrating violin restoration.
